Father's Day @ Peel St Kitchen: Review

Walked to Peel St Kitchen at Southbank. (Saw an ad on Facebook).
They had a special thing where dads eat free. It was really busy in there, packed. We booked a reservation at 12.30 but there was some kind of mix-up because the table we were supposed to be in the guy's name was the same as my brothers. We waited and until they set up another table for us in the middle of the restaurant. Also, they gave us plastic cups because they ran out of glass ones?!

It took awhile for our food to come. They gave us complimentary dishes, pork buns and bread+butter.

Pork buns were so tasty. A simple dish with pork belly, coriander and carrot with a nice sauce. Perfect and balanced.

Interiors were pretty cool. I like the tropical/green wallpaper with the black and the dark brown wood floors, plus the exposed lighting. It looked like it was influenced by islanders and Filipinos.

We ordered 3 large plates and 1 starter:

  1. Tasmania salmon with mash- really good, fish was perfect. Mash was creamy and buttery.
  2. Seared scallops- this wasn't really my thing, but the scallops were really fresh. there was watermelon, not much on the plate, I think we could've done without it
  3. Lamb with curry sauce- this was really delicious
  4. Pork with mash/sauce? - There was this huge pig sitting on the table and it looked so good! we got a bit of it and watched as they chopped it off. this was really super delicious, best dish of the day, meat was tender, skin was crisp. LOve it omg 10/10. sex bomb party in my mouth.

omg drooling
Whilst eating, the chef went up to us and apologised for the wait, which was really cool. The staff were really nice and apologised as well. The bill was only $86? or something, pretty good for 5 people, that's like almost $22 per person.

halo halo

We got up about to leave and one of the waitress said that the chef was going to make us free desserts, so we were like "fuck yeah." and sat back down. It was Halo halo which is a filipino dessert. The waitress was really nice and told us how to eat it. We were all really full, it was a good meal and the staff were so nice to us.

For Father's Day we drove to Southbank with my family, we were contemplating parking at the city or SB but we ended up parking at the cinema (free parking if you watch a movie) but we didn't even watch the movie but bought a ticket because it was cheap like $6. y'know a great idea to be more economically efficient. Then we found out we could have just parked outside the restaurant!

Overall, I think we should rock up late every time and purposely screw up to get complimentary things more often. (Totally kidding....)

5/5!!
