MONTAIGNE

Listened to Montaigne open for San Cisco and fell in love with her voice! I kept thinking I was listening to Bjork live, celestial and ethereal as fuck!
In the morning I heard they did a like a version cover on Triple J. They sound 1000000X awesome LIVE. Montaigne's vocals were enthralling.

Anyone remember Jessica Cerro's "Anyone but me"?

THAT'S HER.

TOP 3: (You can listen to this on Spotify)

1) I'm a Fantastic Wreck »Montaigne – I'm a Fantastic Wreck
So much emotion, this song is really unique with its instruments, the lyrics, the sound, it's a journey. Sounds a bit like Kimbra/Regina Spektor. The piano clash. Everything about this is me.

NEW MUSIC VIDEO

2) Life »Montaigne – Life
I feel the emotion, the pauses, the lyrics are fucking awesome as well, if you get really into it. "Today I  tried to figured out whether I love you or not and then I fell asleep". The build up. The drums. That crescendo. Her voice got loud at 2.30 live and everything was...EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT.

3) Pontius of the Past »Montaigne – Pontius of the Past
"I'm so tired of being civilised". Awesome lyrics. Sounds a bit like Naked and The Famous.

ALSO, Montaigne – A Cinematic Plea for an End as she was describing what the song was about I almost cried. It's overromanticising relationships or something about realness, anyway I can't remember but, it really awesome and a real unexpected gem stumbling across them.

Anyway. Bye!

  1. I liked her very much as Jessica Cerro, I LOVE her as Montaigne!

My favourite song is 'I'm a Fantastic Wreck' which I started listening to on repeat when I found it on Triple J Unearthed months ago. The music compliments the lyrics so perfectly, the way it's a bit jolty at times, and then she mashes the keys on 'wreck', so perfect! The lyrics themselves are beautiful, who hasn't wondered whether another person could love them despite their faults, the things about them that they know aren't perfect but that can't be changed?

I was so happy that the three new songs on the EP were of the same standard as the two I'd already heard. 'Pontius of the Past' and 'A Cinematic Plea for an End' I loved on the first listen. 'Life' took me a few listens to really get into, when I first heard it I was doing something else which was distracting so I just kind of thought it was nice but a bit repetitive. Once I sat and really listened to it and the way the music builds I definitely developed a new appreciation for it and now it's right up there with all of the other songs.

I couldn't get to the San Cisco gig to see her but I will definitely be trying to get to Washo next year to see her supporting for that show :)
