Ate at Peony Asian fusion restaurant today with friends. Was just looking for something cheap. The sign out the front said 50 dishes under $10.. We were all sorta like "Wow, good deals!"
So we walked right in and was seated at the cool circle booth. It's located next to Jackpot.. Which basically is/almost the same concept of the buzzer-type-cheap-asian-dish restaurant.
I ordered the Chicken Katsu curry don ($7.95). It was generously portioned and arrived really fast but I have to say it was HUGE disappointment. The chicken was not crispy at all, the curry was really tasteless, and something about the salad (red cabbage) was odd and sour. It did not seem freshly prepared. Everything got so boring quickly and I did not manage to finish it.
Was this some type of revenge for ordering one of the cheapest meals on the menu? Who knows.
I have had better- and the best Katsu curry I had (so far) was at Noritor, the Korean/Japanese place walking towards QUT Gardens Point.
The cabbage stuff was oddly sour. |
My friend ordered the sizzling beef which looked and tasted awesome! (but suspiciously soft beef) I think order anything sizzling would have been a good choice.
Dish was quite big |
My other friend ordered Pad Thai which was good, but not as good as other Thai restaurant.
Overall, it was a pretty good experience, really cheap prices. I would go here again if I'm looking for something cheap and filling at the city.
