Mental Health Week

STOP THE STIGMA

  • Mental illness is a universal experience
  • Recovery DOES NOT EQUAL CURE. recovery is a journey toward a new valued sense of identity and is individualised
  • Hope is the foundation of the recovery process.. also an active sense of self.
If you know someone who’s depressed, please resolve never to ask them why. Depression isn’t a straightforward response to a bad situation; depression just is, like the weather. Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness, and loneliness they’re going through. Be there for them when they come through the other side. It’s hard to be a friend to someone who’s depressed, but it is one of the kindest, noblest, and best things you will ever do. Don't say stuff like "Just snap out of it." NO. NO. "It’s all in your head."- NO. IT'S VERY REAL FOR THEM.

Be available to listen, or just be there for them. Sometimes you don’t need to say a word. Don’t offer opinions or advice; don’t judge them; be patient and understanding.
